Special Representative Deborah Lyons, head of the UN Assistance Mission (UNAMA), said the consequences of the war could cross borders and urged the ambassadors to seize the opportunity and show determination to prevent Afghanistan from falling into a serious catastrophe.
Homes, hospitals, bridges and other infrastructures were devastated, with more than 1,000 casualties reported in these three regions last month.
Deborah Lyons said: “This is a different kind of war that reminds of Syria recently or Sarajevo in the not so distant past. "Urban areas are being attacked, deliberately causing great harm and causing great civilian casualties".
