According to the statement made by 28 companies that are members of the International Mining and Metals Council (ICMM), these mining companies have committed directly or indirectly to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
 
The fact that companies including Anglo American, Rio Tinto and BHP took this step before next month's UN climate meeting was described as "remarkable" by some circles.
